The cold winter days (by Atlanta standards anyway) have officially come to an end, and while it may not seem as though this is the ideal time of year for a hearty steak, think again. Newly opened in historic downtown Roswell comes Little Steak Alley, which promises robust cuts of red meat along with a host of other offerings.
From the already successful restaurateurs Hicham Azhari and Fikret Kovac, the culinary hotspot of Roswell is in for another restaurant from the duo that hopes to be just as revered as their other ventures. Upon entering, courtesy of a massive cast-iron bull’s head no less, diners are surrounded by traditional American décor of brick walls, wood panels and an earthly color palette. However the owners, as well as executive Chef Bob McDonough, are banking on the food garnering the bulk of your attention.
Co-owner Azhari excited about the menu, states “we have created an old-world-meets-present-day eatery with an affordable and select menu.” There seems to be a little bit of something for everyone at Little Steak Alley, from hardcore red meat eaters to those that prefer delicious dishes featuring chicken and fish. To begin your meal, there is a trio of Moroccan-inspired appetizers to choose from. Porcini-crusted Dayboat scallops with parsnip puree, pork belly, spinach and truffle-scented walnut froth and Moroccan-style shrimp with garlic tomato along with tagine of escargot and preserved lemon with pernod, ras al hanout spice, garlic and a batboute flat bread are surely packed with enough flavor and creativity to warrant several bites.
The menu’s “Butcher’s Cuts” selections give guests the opportunity to choose from some of the most tender USDA Premium Gold Angus beef available, with cuts including: porterhouse, center cut filet mignon, New York Strip, bone-in ribeye. Since the only thing better than a prime cut of beef is a decadent sauce to accent it, there are various sauces to enhance the experience like yuzu béarnaise, horseradish cream, bone marrow butter and black truffle butter to name a few.
If seafood is more likely to tempt your palate, the fresh catch options at Little Steak Alley are quite impressive. Not only are the jumbo shrimp, crab Oscar and lobster tails welcomed components with the steaks, they’re also delicious when paired with menu side dishes such as the triple cream mac & cheese with mascarpone cheese and black truffle oil, sweet potato casserole or creamed spinach brulée. Elsewhere, the “Local Favorites” menu strives to entice with highlights including a hanger steak sandwich, shellfish parppadelle and a Tandori spiced tofu steak.
For the spirits side of Roswell’s latest resident, an emphasis is placed on boutique and vintage wines and a variety of classic styles of bourbon and whisky, but there is also a full bar featuring a highly praised 2006 Cardinale Bordeaux-style blend from Napa that was among those listed on Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate List. To ensure the dining experience is especially personalized, diners can enjoy “call ahead decanting” where your choice bottle of wine is held in the wine cooler at the precise temperature it should be served and decanted upon.
With an acclaimed duo creating the vision, an award-winning executive chef responsible for the menu and a décor that is equally inviting and chic, Little Steak Alley should be right at home within the Atlanta food scene, where the stakes (and steaks) run high.
