The official source of what's happening in Atlanta, GA
On April 15, 1912, Titanic, the world’s largest and most iconic Ship, sank after colliding with an iceberg in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. 100 years later on April 6, RMS Titanic, Inc. will pay tribute to the legendary story when it opens Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition at the Atlantic Station Premier Exhibition Center.
Due to popular demand, Georgia will become one of eight cities to host Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition during its 100 year anniversary. This unique experience will feature more than 200 artifacts, 100 recently conserved and displayed for the first time. Through these advanced conservation efforts, the Georgia exhibition will also unveil new findings that help piece together untold stories of Titanic’s passengers and crew, which were once thought to be lost with great ocean liner.
Highlights of Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition Atlanta to include:
- 212 artifacts recovered from eight research and recovery expeditions to Titanic’s wreck site
- 100 recently conserved artifacts to make their debut in Atlanta, never having been seen before
- Discover untold stories of Titanic’s passengers and crew- unveiled for the first time anywhere
Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition will replace Dialog in the Dark, which has successfully appeared for more than three years at the Exhibition Center. Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition will be featured alongside BODIES…The Exhibition.
Dialog in the Dark, which made its US debut in Atlanta in August 2008, has challenged and inspired nearly 300,000 Georgia visitors to re-think prejudices and deepen self-awareness through the groundbreaking exhibition. Dialog in the Dark was extended multiple times due to popular demand, and has gone on to appear in other cities and museums across the country, including its most recent opening in New York City this past fall. People are encouraged to experience Dialog in the Dark before it closes, March 11, 2012.
“Dialog in the Dark has been an exceptional experience for the Atlantic Station guest for the past three years,” said Mark Toro, managing partner, North American Properties. “There’s already so much buzz about Titanic in Atlanta and we are thrilled to be able to bring such a special and unique experience to Midtown.”
Upon entering Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition, visitors will be drawn back in time to April 1912, when the Ship embarked on its maiden voyage. They’ll receive replica boarding pass, assume the role a passenger and follow a chronological journey through life on Titanic – from the Ship’s construction to life on board, the famous sinking, and the modern day efforts to recover and conserve the wreckage for future generations.
“The incredible story of Titanic is timeless and knows no generational boundaries. Young and old alike are always enthralled with both the beauty and tragedy of the ill fated ocean liner that is the story of Titanic. We are delighted to collaborate once again with Atlantic Station and excited to unveil some of the untold mysteries of this iconic Ship. With more than 25 million visitors to date, we consistently see how Titanic resonates and touches everyone, and there is no more poignant time in the story and history of Titanic than now -- the Centennial commemoration,” said Katherine Seymour, vice president of communications for RMS Titanic, Inc.
RMS Titanic, Inc. is the only company permitted by law to recover objects from the wreck site of Titanic. The Company was granted salvor-in-possession rights by a United States federal court in 1994 and has conducted eight research and recovery expeditions recovering more than 5,000 artifacts.
