One thing Atlantans know well is that Southern summers can mean hot and humid temperatures galore. However, that doesn’t stop residents from enjoying a soothing summer concert outside amongst the beaming Atlanta sun. One of the lesser known concert series is Jazz on the Lawn at the Callanwolde Fine Arts Center. Yet what it lacks in notoriety it more than makes up for in talent.

The Jazz on the Lawn outdoor concert series showcases a lineup of Atlanta’s jazz treasures with a mix of classic and contemporary jazz, swing, fusion, Latin and blues. Surrounded by the natural beauty of Callanwolde’s lush grounds it’s a great way to unwind and enjoy live music performed by some of the finest jazz artists in the Southeast. Taking place at 7:30pm on Friday evenings, Jazz on the Lawn is scheduled for July 13th, July 27th and August 10th.  The special guest for July 13th is the Bernard Linnette Interactive Sextet. Linnette is a jazz drummer who, together with his band, combines the sounds of Latin and avant-garde jazz styles. The sextet also features vocalist Vinnie Knight who offers an eclectic mix of poetry to complement the music. On July 27th the spotlight performer is Faith, a five-piece jazz band fronted by vocalist Faith Carmichael. They offer up an energetic mix of soul, jazz and folk music. The final performer of the Jazz on the Lawn concert series is Scott Glazer’s Mojo Dojo, which features front man and bassist Scott Glazer. The band’s sound is a healthy mix of jazz, blues and southern soul.

Tickets for this event are $15 in advance, $20 at the door for adults and $18 for seniors, members and students ages 13-18. There is free on-site parking for the convenience of attendees. In the event of rain or other emergency weather occurrence, concerts will be moved inside the Callanwolde Indoor Courtyard.

Callanwolde Fine Arts Center is located at 980 Briarcliff Rd. NE Atlanta, GA 30306  404-872-5338
