In a quest to prove that not every successful restaurant has to be located within the city limits, Century House Tavern is smack dab in the energetic downtown community of Woodstock. Sure, it may seem as though the restaurants in the city of Atlanta get all of the recognition, however true culinary aficionados know that there are several hidden gems along the outskirts of the city’s metropolis, of which Century House Tavern hopes to be apart. Part friendly neighborhood tavern and part upscale comfort food, this newbie on the Atlanta restaurant scene strives to make a delicious lasting impression.

Occupying the historic Hubbard House that was built way back in 1894, there is a rustic old charm about the space that feels as though your grandmother’s house has been updated with modern appliances and furniture. The sturdy brick walls and aged, shabby chic paint job add to the welcoming feel of this place. It’s as if, the expectation of comfort food is already anticipated before you even order because of the warm surroundings.

Executive Chef Richard Wilt has a culinary vision and an expert hand at creating familiar dishes that have an international spin with alternative ingredients. A few examples of these mouthwatering offerings include: the Portobello Mushroom Fries (served with sweet tomato jam & gorgonzola cream), Duck Confit Spring Roll (with jicama, sweet chili sauce & green papaya), Gulf Shrimp & Crab Risotto (with blue crab, Gulf shrimp, corn and tomatoes), Ahi Tuna Burger (with wasabi mayo, marinated cucumbers & crispy onions) and the always comforting Chicken & Dumplings featuring Springer Mountain chicken and local vegetables. The dessert menu is definitely one to savor, as it features such sinful options as Tahitian Vanilla Bean Crème Brulée, Forbidden Rice Pudding, Granny Smith Apple Tart Tatin, Chocolate Layer Cake and Sorbet Terrine. Keeping in line with the tavern aspect of the restaurant, there are local, national and international wine and beer selections, as well as seasonal cocktails.
