Home an endless amount of concerts, comedy shows and sporting events, Atlanta’s Philips Arena isn’t generally known as home to standout fine dining. Well, newly opened restaurant RED hopes to change all that with a concept that lets you spectate the happenings at the arena, while indulging in a meal worthy of second helpings. The location in the heart of downtown is sure to not only attract residents, but visitors and tourists alike. With so many openings of restaurants in the city occurring on a pretty regular basis, only time will tell if RED has any true staying power, but it appears as though they’re off to a pretty good start.

To create the unique visual experience of RED, the likes of which have never been seen at Philips Arena, three specific elements were employed. First, there’s tiered level seating within the restaurant and bar space allowing for optimal visibility of the court from the inside. Second, the terraced dining accommodations within the Philips Arena seating bowl provide for a premium view of all the happenings below on the floor. Finally rounding things out, there is a centrally located show kitchen for guests to enjoy the view of the chefs preparing meals. To sum things up, it’s pretty cool to be able to eat a delicious gourmet meal while getting a first-hand account of the action going on at the arena without the hassle of crowds and uncomfortable seating. The décor is also worth raving about, as the bright bursts of color honoring the restaurant’s namesake can be seen throughout. There are also stark silver metal appliances and fixtures, as well as numerous flat screen TV’s, intimate tables and a roomy bar.

The overwhelming atmosphere of RED sets you up for the tasty food offerings available.  Elevated takes on burgers are one of the menu features of RED, but there are definitely other culinary options to choose from that perhaps better showcase what the kitchen has to offer. A few highlights include: Lemon Rosemary Chicken Breast, Sliced Tenderloin Steak Melt, Buffalo Chicken Sliders, Flatbread Pizzas, Shrimp & Super Lump Crab Cakes and the Pow Pow Rock Shrimp. Desserts are tempting fare such as, NY Cheesecake, Peach Crème Brulée and Molton Lava Cake. The full-service bar features a vast selection of beer, wine, liquor and signature cocktails.

RED is located at 1 Philips Drive, Atlanta, 404-878-3604. Operating hours are before, during and after games or shows at Philips Arena. Call restaurant for specific opening and closing times. For more information visit www.philipsarena.com.
