If there is one thing you can never go wrong with here in Atlanta, it’s appreciating the affinity that southerners have for good ol’ fashioned southern cuisine. Some like it just like their grandma or mom used to make without all the frills, while others love the basics, but crave a more elevated recipe and presentation. These types of people are exactly the customers that Peachtree’s new restaurant resident, Watershed on Peachtree, aims to entice inside its establishment. Combining traditional southern fare with a hint of innovation and creativity, this restaurant hopes to feed Atlanta residents for quite some time. Before you’ve even tasted what Watershed on Peachtree has to offer you’ll likely be impressed by upscale Brookwood high-rise it occupies. Not only do the various views look out directly onto Peachtree Street, by the contemporary design and intimate table placement makes for quite the cozy dining experience. Executive Chef Joe Truex and Chef de Cuisine Julia LeRoy work together to craft a menu that should please varying levels of tastes as it relates to southern cuisine. There are many worthy, delicious options to choose from, but there are a few standouts that demand immediate attention, including: Smoked Ham-Wrapped Georgia Shrimp a la Plancha (lemon, parsley, garlic), Joe’s Jambalaya, Baked Acadian Redfish Imperial (lump crab meat, gulf shrimp, jumbo asparagus, crawfish hollandaise), Braised Center Cut Brisket (potato celery puree, red wine mushroom gravy, gremolata) and lastly the Bone-In Pork Chop with spicy collard greens and bacon jam. Notable sides include the Fire Cracker Green Beans and the Mac n’ Cheese. You wouldn’t necessarily expect it at a restaurant that serves up mostly down home fare, but there is a pretty impressive wine list here, which adds to the overall appeal of this place.
