Travel even further north on GA-400 and you will leave North Fulton County and enter Cumming and Forsyth County. This area is on the fringe of metro Atlanta (30 miles north of the city), and is enjoying rapid growth as North Fulton becomes more congested. The commute to downtown takes a little longer, but many newcomers are choosing Forsyth because of its affordable housing, brand new schools and proximity to recreation. In fact, Forsyth has become one of the fastest-growing areas in the country! It is only minutes from Lake Lanier, the most popular Corps of Engineers project in the country. The lake provides for every type of water sport, and is a popular weekend retreat as well as full-time address. The residential growth of the county has spurred growth in many other industries as well. Baptist North Hospital has broken ground on a new facility. The Forsyth County School System is rapidly expanding to meet the population needs, and retail and commercial development is beginning to occur. Many believe Forsyth County may become the next Alpharetta.
