The Peachtree Road Race
The Peachtree is the world’s largest 10K road race and arguably the best and most famous.
On the 4th of July, 55,000 runners and more than 150,000 spectators will clog Atlanta’s most famous street in the 36th running of the Peachtree Road Race. The field is so large that the winner will have crossed the finish line a full hour before the final runner begins his 6.2 mile run.
The race draws world class runners, competitive athletes from all over and local joggers and even some who walk most of the course, but that is the beauty of the event that also spawned a huge fitness craze that still hasn’t stopped growing in Atlanta.
Besides this major event, there are hundreds of smaller road races, including a Peachtree for kids.
