Atlanta Arts Festival Returns this September

While not as wildly covered as other forms of artistic expression in Atlanta, the city's art scene is definitely worth recognition. One of the best ways to do this is to partake in some of the art festivals that populate the city. The Atlanta Arts Festival is one of the more popular ways to indulge your love for art as well as take home pieces from local artisans. The festival returns in a few weeks, so take a look at what you can expect before the fun officially comes to town. Explore your inner Pablo Picasso, Vincent Van Gogh, or Claude Monet and register for Canvas by U! classes as part of the 7 th Annual Atlanta Arts Festival Sept. 14 th & 15 th in Piedmont Park.

Create your own masterpiece to take home along with other beautiful selections from 200 talented artists from across the country. Take a timeout from perusing the Artist Market and relish the opportunity to express yourself. Nestled under one of the pavilions at Piedmont Park, the open-air classroom offers some relief from the sun and the beautiful outdoors heightens the senses for optimal creative energy. Mix and mingle with classmates, sip on beverages, and make the next accent piece for your kitchen. Canvas by U! is one of the many fun ways to escape, relax and unwind at the 2013 Atlanta Arts Festival. Register by visiting . "Classes, demonstrations and workshops are such an integral part of Atlanta Arts Festival. We not only want festival-goers to view and purchase art from extremely skilled craftsmen, but we also want to allow them the opportunity to create art. That's why we incorporate the Canvas by U! classes into the festival," says festival co-founder Julie Tepp. These adult art classes are taught by Stacy Abston, owner of Canvas by U! studios.

Using a step-by-step method to complete a painting in the hour-and-a-half session, festival-goers with little to no painting experience are welcome to participate. Classes cost $20 and everything needed for class will be supplied. The Canvas by U! themes and schedule for Atlanta Arts Festival are as follows: Saturday Schedule: Birch Trees 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Three Scoops 1:30-3 p.m. Funky Flowers 3:30-5 p.m. Sunday Schedule: Wildflower Abstract 1-2:30 p.m. Funky Pumpkins 3-4:30 p.m. Join the conversation and stay up-to-date with the Atlanta Arts Festival by following @AtlantaArtsFest on Twitter and becoming a "fan" on Facebook at atlantaartsfestival .
