Atlanta Happenings Week of 8122013

Atlanta is the hot place to be this week as the city will once again play host to a large set of concerts, sports, theater and comedy shows. Given that there is just so much to do in Atlanta, it's a good idea to plan ahead as many of these events can be sold out and tickets hard to get. So if your plans have you in Atlanta this week, we have put together a nice little list to keep you in the know of the hot events going taking place. It's still summer, so of the top events going on this week obviously includes the Atlanta Braves who are headed towards the playoffs. They have won 9 of their last 10 games and are well on their way to taking the National League East. They have 14.5 game lead on their closest rivals, the Washington Nationals.

Most of the other hot events this week are concerts. Hot concerts this week include Icona Pop, 80's pop bands Kansas & Toto, Jimmy Eat World, One Republic and Josh Groban. Icona Pop is a Swedish Duo well known for their song "I Love It," which was featured on the hit show, Glee, and they have won a bunch of Teen Choice Awards. They take the stage at the Heaven Stage at Masquerade on Wednesday. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't totally geeking about the Kansas & Toto tour who play at the Chastaine Park Amphitheater on Wednesday. How much fun! And I love that they're together as a nod to the Wizard of Oz. Jimmy Eat World has been popular since the 90's and their hit "The Middle." It's been awhile since the band has released new music, it's possible they'll play new songs during the show at the Center Stage Theatre also on Wednesday.

One Republic is a hot, up and coming band, and should not be confused with similarly named, One Direction. The Colorado based band is touring to support their third album, Native, at the Chastaine Park Amphitheater on Thursday. And finally, Josh Groban will be performing on Sunday, August 18th at the Chastaine Park Amphitheater. His powerful song, "You Raise Me Up," is well known as a tear jerker.
