Atlanta Happenings Week of 8192013

Once again, Atlanta is a hot city to be in this week. Whether you're just a visitor or a lifelong resident, there are exciting events going on for every walks of life. Take a look below for the most popular shows happening in town this week. There are not many high profile sporting events taking place this week, and the hot events taking place are heavily focused on music, specifically throwback bands.

Some of the hot shows this week are Big Head Todd with Soul Asylum, Matthew Sweet & the Wailers, Slightly Stoopid, Scott Weiland, Backstreet Boys with Jesse McCartney & DJ Pauly D, Bruno Mars with Fitz and the Tantrums, and Cheech & Chong. First formed back in 1986 (that's 27 years ago if you're keeping track), Big Head Todd takes the stage on the Aug. 21 at Chastain Park Amphitheater with 90's band Soul Asylum (Runway Train, anyone?) and alt rocker Matthew Sweet. Slightly Stoopid got their start when Sublime band member, Bradley Nowell, signed them to his label, Skunk Records, while they were still in high school in 1995. The folk rockers take the stage on Aug. 21 at the Tabernacle. Scott Weiland, until recently, was the front man of Stone Temple Pilots. After a tumultuous history with the band, they decided to part ways and Weiland continued with his solo career. He is also playing on Aug. 21 at Center Stage Theatre.

The 90's boy bands are hitting the stages hard this summer, and fans are flocking to see them. BSB's along with fellow teenage heartthrob Jesse McCartney and Jersey Shore cast mate DJ Pauly D can be seen on Aug. 22at the Chastain Park Ampitheatre. You can see cannabis loving comedians, Cheech & Chong, and their unique brand on humor on Aug. 23 at the Chastain Park Amphitheater. As far as newer music goes, Bruno Mars and Fitz and the Tantrums can be seen on Aug. 22 at Philips Arena. Fitz and the Tantrums is definitely a band to keep your eye on, they're about ready to explode on the musical world.

There are a few Atlanta Dream games going on. On Tuesday, the women's professional team plays against the Minnesota Lynx and on Saturday, they play the Chicago Sky, both at Philips Arena. So, those are the top events taking place in Atlanta this week. Be sure to get your tickets in advance at they can sell out fast. Until next week!
