Atlanta Happenings Week of 922013

September is here and that means the summer is officially over and the kids are back in school. While it can be a depressing time of the year with fall and winter just around the corner, many new exciting events are coming to Atlanta during the first week of September. This week, the city of Atlanta will play host to a variety of events including sold out concerts, Major League Baseball and even some college football. Make sure you get your tickets in advance as events typically sell out fast. In the world of sports, top events to see this week include the Atlanta Braves and the Georgia State Panthers.

The Braves are once again headed to the playoffs thanks in large part to the recent surge by slugging first basemen Freddie Freeman. Earlier today, Freeman propelled the Braves over the Mets with 5 RBI after doubling and hitting his 18th home run of the season. Freeman loves Mets pitching as evidenced by his .349 batting average, five home runs and 16 RBI. Although the Georgia State Panthers lost their opening game against Samford (21-31), new head coach Trent Miles will look to right the ship against Tennessee-Chattanooga on Saturday 9/7/2013. QB, Ronnie Bell got off to a good start this season having passed for 392 yards and three touchdowns. However, his two interceptions were costly and will need to be cleaned up if Georgia State wants to make any noise in the Sun Belt Conference. On the music front, the legendary Diana Ross will be coming to Atlanta on Saturday (9/7).

The former Supremes lead singer and award winning artist, will be performing hit songs such as "Ain't No Mountain High Enough", "I'm Still Waiting", "Endless Love", "Reach Out and Touch" and many more at the Chastain Park Amphitheater. If you're in the mood for a throw back band, the Hanson brothers will also be on the road and in Atlanta. Their new album, Anthem , was released in June of this year. If electronic music is your thing, you will want to be sure to check out Zedd who will be performing at the Tabernacle on Tuesday September 3rd. The 24-year old German born DJ is currently one of the hottest electro-house music producers in the world and will be headlining the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas later in September So, that's your hot events for this first full weekend of September.
