Best Lunch Alternative- CAFE SUNFLOWER

Growing up in an Italian/Green household, meat was a staple at every meal. Breakfast we had bacon, lunch we had chicken salad, and dinner was usually pasta with sausage and peppers. Fast forward 30 years later, and this same woman who prepared all these meals is now 100% vegetarian and our family dinners have slightly changed. I respect the reason behind her and other vegetarian's, whether it's for the better of the animal, health reasons, or other reasons in general, but I have never seen myself go down "that" preverbal road. I mean, I like meat. I ate at Sunflower Cafe by chance and I honestly didn't even know if was a vegetarian restaurant until I got the bill! The server stopped to thank us and asked how long we had been vegetarians and my eyes shot open like I was just kicked in the shin. I asked what she meant, and then she explained to me that I was dining at a vegetarian restaurant and she had heard my mom discussing how she was a veggie.

That's how good the food was; I didn't even notice I wasn't eating something cooked in animal fat or pairing it with something that once had parents. The menu appeared to me as just another healthy restaurant trying to promote eating well. It had salads, paninis, dips and even burgers! Now, looking over it again with clearer eyes, I notice the "tofu" here and "soy burger" there. Now, I didn't actually try the burger, but I will next time just to see if I can actually taste the difference, but my eggplant orzo lasagna was to die for! I told my mom it might even be better than hers! She didn't like that nearly as much as she liked her sandwich, but she sort of agreed (in her own, silent way.) I'd love to get back and try one of their dinner options, because I am certain they will be just as good as lunch, if not better. I hate to say it, but I think I can see what the fuss is all about when it comes to being a vegetarian. I'm not saying I am converting, but with meals like that, who needs bacon?
