Garden Lights Holiday Nights at Atlanta Botanical Garden

Aside from the Christmas tree, one of the most important and highly regarded parts of the holiday season is the magical display of hundreds, sometimes thousands, of twinkling lights. Although they only come out to play every December, holiday lights are appreciated all year long. One of Atlanta's most celebrated attractions, the Atlanta Botanical Garden, has crafted an event that showcases the celebration and whimsical nature of holiday lights.

The aptly named Garden Lights, Holiday Nights , not only display the beauty of the gardens, but also the decorations that make this time of year so festive and fun. Running now through January 5, 2013, Garden Lights, Holiday Nights is one of the largest holiday light shows in the country, with more than 1 million energy-efficient bulbs. The attraction will feature almost exclusively LED lights showcasing botanical-inspired light displays throughout the Garden's 30-acres. One of the things that set this holiday light display apart from others throughout the city is that it is an entirely green concept.

To further increase energy efficiency, new timing controls allow the Garden to minimize the number of hours the lights are on, providing a large-scale show with small-scale power consumption. As part of an ongoing partnership, the Garden will use green energy from Georgia Power for the holiday exhibition. To ignite this winter wonderland, energy produced from renewable resources will be added to the power grid in an amount equal to what the show consumes. Georgia Power's green energy sources include solar power and biomass, such as landfill gas burned to produce steam for power generation.

Atlanta Botanical Garden Executive Director Mary Pat Matheson spoke about the decision and ultimate commitment to make the attraction green, stating "We are thrilled to continue our green practices this holiday season with Garden Lights, Holiday Nights . Implementing an energy-efficient plan will maximize our opportunity to showcase - and serve - our environment among a host of lights and colors for a magnificent experience." This a great event that is not just visually appealing, but environmentally conscious as well, so gather up the entire family and indulge in the beauty of this special treat before it goes away. Garden Lights, Holiday Nights is open nightly from 5 p.m.- 10 p.m. For more information and tickets visit www.atlantabotanicalgarden.org or call 1-855-454-6849.
