March Atlanta Entertainment Guide

If you are a fan of college basketball, Atlanta will be the place to be come March. Not only will the "Big Peach" be hosting the 2012 ACC Mens Basketball Tournament but Atlanta will also be the home of the 2012 NCAA Tournament South Regional . In March college hoops fans from all over the country will be migrating to Atlanta to take in some of the best basketball in the country. The 2012 ACC Basketball Tournament will take place from March 8 th through March 11, 2012 at Philips Arena. Although the City of Atlanta has hosted this event before (2001 and 2009 at the Georgia Dome), this will be the first time at Philips Arena.

The single elimination tournament has been held every year since the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) was formed 58 years ago in 1954. Since that time Duke and North Carolina have dominated the competition racking up 19 and 17 conference championships respectively. NC State (10), Wake Forest (4), Georgia Tech (3), Maryland (3), South Carolina (1), and Virginia (1) have also won the tournament in the past. This year Duke (20-4) and North Carolina (20-4) are expected to again battle it out for the title with Virginia (19-4), Florida State (16-7) and NC State in the hunt as well. The winner of the ACC Tournament is also declared the conference champions, and as such, earns an automatic bid to the 2012 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament.

The ACC Tournament Schedule is as follows: 3/8/2012 Session 1 & 2 - Philips Arena - Atlanta, GA 3/9/2012 - Session 3 & 4 - Philips Arena - Atlanta, GA 3/10/2012 - Session 5 (Semifinals)- Philips Arena - Atlanta, GA 3/11/2012 Session 6 (Championship Game)- Philips Arena - Atlanta, GA Although the 2012 NCAA Tournament's Final Four will be played in New Orleans at the Super Dome, the road there will lead through Atlanta. The South regional consists of 2 sessions. Session 1 involves the four South Regional teams who won in rounds 1-3 and made it to the Sweet Sixteen. Session 2 is the South Regional Finals.

Last year it was Butler who stunned the nation and waltzed to the Final Four out of this regional.
