New Restaurant Spotlight The Optimist

Foodies rejoice! Another day, another new restaurant opening, yet this time in the popular west Midtown section of the city, which appears to be on quite the upswing as it relates to new properties. The Optimist serves up the freshest catch of the day amidst a calming, yet modernly designed atmosphere. Take a deeper look at what to expect before you head over to this latest addition to the Atlanta culinary scene. Restaurateur Ford Fry (whose previous establishments include JCT Kitchen and No. 246) adds The Optimist to his impressive track record of Atlanta eateries.

Decked out in crisp white tones and punctuated by mahogany wood paneling, The Optimist derives its unusual name (for a restaurant anyways) from a sailing dinghy, however there is nothing at all unusual about the menu that features some of the more innovative seafood dishes the city has to offer. Speaking of the menu, Executive Chef Adam Evans has crafted quite the culinary concoction that successfully combines traditional seafood fare with those that are filled with modern imagination. While it's a little difficult to choose only a few specific menu items that are worth your precious palate, there are those that stand out a bit more than the rest.

Seared rare tuna with charred octopus and potato salad, and harissa, Maine sea scallops w/oxtail marmalade and brown butter chicken jus, duck fat poached swordfish with pickled sweet peppers and crispy pancetta, lamb belly with field peas, preserved lemon and lamb jus, smoked white fish chowder, Whole Georgia white shrimp a la plancha with toast, arbol chile and lime are some of the entrees that are definitely worth a try. Dessert features a delectable grapefruit tart and a decadent offering called the "Milk Chocolate Cloud."

Those that like spirits with their food will be pleased to know that The Optimist also operates a full bar, so your drink requests are welcomed. The Optimist's operating times are as follows: Monday through Friday for lunch from 11:30am-2:30pm. Sunday through Thursday dinner hours are from 5-10pm, while Fridays and Saturday's hours are 5-11pm. The Optimist is located at 914 Howell Mill Rd.
