Peachtree Street to Shut Down for a Fashion Block Party

As consistently reported here on Atlanta.com, the 12 th & Midtown district is one of the most thriving and heavily populated new mixed-used developments in town. Keeping with the ever-evolving theme of new additions and celebrations at the space, 12 th & Midtown is throwing the grand opening party to end all grand opening parties for tenant Republic of Couture. The event is so big that it's scheduled to shut down Peachtree Street, now that's a fashion celebration I can get behind! Since opening last May in the 12 th & Midtown area, Atlantans have converged on the new Republic of Couture fashion store at 1075 Peachtree Street. With a loyal and growing customer base, ROC Atlanta is set to officially open its doors at a grand opening event Saturday, October 5 th . Billed as "the new way of shopping," five months after entering Atlanta the 6,000 square foot store has received several popular-vote consumer shopping awards and accolades for friendly, professional service and the wide selection of popular, affordable and designer fashions and accessories for men and women.

The ROC concept is being expanded this year to select markets around the country. "The reputation we enjoy in Atlanta is too big to be kept inside and it's time to say 'thank you'," according to Gaston Garcia, Republic of Couture founder. The Grand Opening event will feature a full-length outdoor fashion show directly on Peachtree Street between 11 th and 12 th Streets followed by a street party with DJ AMIX entertainers, food and music. The full city block on Peachtree Street between 11 th and 12 th Streets will be closed to vehicular traffic from 3:00 p.m. Saturday, October 5 th until Sunday at 1:00 a.m. Construction of a 40 foot raised runway with VIP seating and backstage model area will commence in the afternoon. Special lighting will be installed, sound checks conducted and rehearsals completed before the 8:00 p.m. start of the fashion show. "We are proud to welcome Republic of Couture to Atlanta and to District 6 in particular," says District 6 City Council member Alex Wan.

"It's a dynamic environment that perfectly answers the burgeoning retail and residential needs of the community." According to Shirley Gouffon, senior vice president of retail leasing for 12th & Midtown and Selig Enterprises, "ROC is unlike any other store in the Atlanta market and is the perfect tenant to kick off the fashion component at 12th & Midtown. With its broad array of price points and designer collections, ROC will undoubtedly become a leading shopping destination for Atlanta's fashion conscious." The public is encouraged to watch the fashion show from preferred viewing areas at street level.

"Check in" and "Like" Republic of Couture on Facebook to gain entry to these special areas and enjoy the show! AID Atlanta is the local charitable beneficiary of the event, receiving a portion of store proceeds generated on Saturday. AID Atlanta provides a broad and compassionate range of services to the Atlanta HIV/AIDS community. Republic of Couture will also donate $0.50 to AID Atlanta for each tweet during the grand opening that contains a photo from inside the store and that includes a tag for #Rocintheweb, the ROC twitter feed. On-the-spot discounts and promotions will take place in the store throughout the night. Sponsors of the evening include STK, Purity Vodka, Jezebel Magazine and Loews Atlanta hotel.
