Sometimes when something is wrapped in pretty packaging you forget what's inside or you're subsequently disappointed when the inner contents don't match the beautiful exterior. This sentiment often rings true within the restaurant industry, where beautiful buildings, decor and fixtures set the scene for food that can sometimes be quite disappointing. It should be a welcome culinary surprise then that Smyrna's Boca Mexican Grill is in a decidedly more modest building with accompanying decor and fixtures, but the food is a standout.

This is possible due to the classic Mexican fare elevated with interesting ingredients and alternative takes on favorites. When you step inside, there are the familiar primary colors that occupy most Mexican restaurants and also a large mural of a menacing bull, which is equally fascinating and creepy. The atmosphere is very comfortable, almost as though you were at home and you had a personal chef come in and make some superior Mexican food. Children are more than at home here as well, as the live music, frequent birthday parties and kid's combo meal suggests.

Just like most Middle American Mexican restaurants, Boca Mexican Grill's prices are easy on the wallet, which makes for an even better culinary experience. One of the standout menu offerings is the lobster taco plate, which comes with three tacos containing lobster, cilantro and radish with rice and beans on the side. Other notables include: the stew-like pork ribs with green chile sauce, Michoacan-style carnitas marinated with tomatillos and chiles verdes and the innovative creation of enchiladas stuffed with quail.
