Restaurant Spotlight The Greater Good Barbecue

Aside from soul food, one obvious culinary aspect of living in the south is delicious, down-home BBQ. You can find it practically anywhere in the city and the outskirts of town as well. There are those BBQ aficionados and true experts, who live and die by what they deem worthy 'que. This makes the task of opening an impressive and successful BBQ restaurant quite daunting, if only for the fact that the potential customers here in the south can easily spot imposters.

Opening this past summer in Tucker, The Great Good Barbecue aims to provide Atlantans with the BBQ they have come to love and expect from local eateries. They have some pretty big shoes to fill, but seem to be up for the challenge. Let's dig in. While the entirety of The Greater Good Barbeque is huge, the interior leaves something to be desired. This is likely due to the fact that so many other former restaurants have come and gone inside the space, and some of their decorating contributions still remain.

To be fair though, a swanky decor and upscale atmosphere is never really what sets superior BBQ restaurants apart from their competition. At places like this, the food is the most important element despite the lack of refinery of the exterior or interior of the building it's cooked in. The menu here isn't anything exactly innovating, however it's the way the dishes are prepared that gives The Greater Good Barbeque its signature flair. Some of the familiar BBQ favorites include: Barbeque Chicken, Beef Brisket, Rack of Ribs, Pulled Pork Sandwich, Mac n' Cheese, Collard Greens, Coleslaw and Brunswick Stew.

All of the BBQ offerings are smoked slowly and coated in a special dry rub. The beverage menu features the southern favorite, sweet tea along with soft drinks and beer. The Greater Good Barbeque is located at 4431 Hugh Howell Road, Tucker, 770-908-8164. Operating hours are: 11 a.m. - 9 p.m. Mondays-Thursdays; 11 a.m. - 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays; Noon - 9 p.m. Sundays.
