Wine tasting Atlanta style

With fall fast approaching and summer coming to its untimely end, it's time to start filling up those calendars up with some last minute summer planning. One of my favorite ways to end summer and transition into fall is with a nice glass of wine. Now, since Atlanta isn't exactly known for its rolling hills of vineyards, sometimes you have to get creative if you want to experience something out of the ordinary. We may not have vineyard after vineyard lined up at the end of each street, but there are plenty of places to get your wine fix without having to travel to Napa.

I'd like to offer a few places to raise your glass (and your pinky) and sip on some of Atlanta's finest reserve. Table 1280 hosts wine tastings on alternate Wednesdays. The scheduled tastings for August 2015 are on the 26th, starting at 5:30 p.m. Guests will be able to have 10 wine tastes for $15. Table 1280, Woodruff Arts Center, 1280 Peachtree Rd. NE, Atlanta, GA 30309, 404-897-1280. Watershed on Peachtree will hold a dual wine pairing dinner with winemakers Janell Dusi from J. Dusi Winery in Paso Robles and Kimberly Jones, who crafts her wines in Maury, just north of the Spanish border in the Roussillon, and in the Rhone Valley in France. At 6:30 p.m. on August 25th, guests will enjoy an aperitif wine with hors d' oeuvres and engage with Watershed's executive chef Zeb Stevenson.

Bantam + Biddy has debuted a monthly wine tasting series, co-hosted by nearby Ansley Wine Merchants. The tastings will take place at the restaurant from 6:30 p.m.-7 p.m., when the wine store will pour six different wines for guests to sample. Watershed on Peachtree also offers themed monthly wine tastings featuring 20 wines for $20 (plus tax and gratuity) along with chef's choice light bites. Tuesday Wine Tastings are held monthly from 5:30 p.m.-7 p.m. The specific Tuesday changes each month, so check the restaurant's web site or add your name to its e-mail list to receive announcements of future tastings and other events. Eclipse di Luna hosts ongoing wine tastings featuring tapas and a bottomless glass of wine on the first Tuesday of every month.

Guests may taste six to eight varieties of wine. The tasting lasts from 6 p.m.-7 p.m. and costs $10. On Wednesdays from 5 p.m.-6 p.m., sommelier Robert Ardinger leads a tasting of five wines paired with five different cheeses at Linger Longer Steakhouse at The Ritz-Carlton Lodge, Reynolds Plantation . The cost is $15 per person. For more information about the author, Denielle D'Ambrosio, please visit my Google+ profile page.
